Electronic Plan Check Submittal for Building Permits

  1. It is advisable to consult with the Planning Department to ensure that your project meets certain design standards required by the Laguna Hills Municipal Code prior to submitting for plan check to avoid paying non refundable plan check fees for a project that cannot be permitted. The Planning Department staff can be contacted by phone at (949)707-2672 or in person at City Hall during counter hours.

  2. Plan Checks submitted here are reviewed by both the Planning & Building Departments. If your project requires review/permits by other departments (Engineering, Grading, etc.) or agencies (OC Fire Authority, OC Health Dept., Water District, etc.) it is the responsibility of the applicant to submit required plans to those departments and provide the Permit Technician with those approvals prior to permit issuance.

  8. If this is your project's initial submittal, You must complete and upload the Permit/Plan Check Application form below. Otherwise skip to the Plans & Calcs upload section.

  9. A completed Permit/Plan Check Application form is required for all electronic plan check initial submittals. The form is available on the Forms, Documents, and Maps page of the City's website. Complete the form, sign it and upload it above. An incomplete application form or failure to submit an application form will result in a rejected submittal.

  10. All plan pages and calculations must be in one file to submit electronically. The City will not accept plan check submittals in multiple files. It is the applicants responsibility to ensure the file uploaded is complete and includes all necessary pages. Incomplete submittals may result in additional plan check rounds which may result in additional fees due for the plan check review.

  11. Before the Permit Technician can route your initial submittal of plans to the two departments for review the City will need to receive payment for the plan check fees. You will receive a confirmation email within 1 business day indicating that your submittal has been accepted and entered into our permitting system. This email will include an attachment of the invoice for the plan check fees. Your plan check fee will cover 3 rounds of plan check. If your plan check requires more than 3 rounds to approve each subsequent round will be charged for the time it takes to perform the plan check.

  12. Payment Options

    The plan check fees can be paid in 1 of 2 ways. Please indicate how you plan to pay for the plan check fees below. The confirmation email will have instructions on how to complete the payment based on your choice below.

  13. Each round of plan check review takes up to 10 business days. When your plan check review is complete you will receive an email indicating if your plans are approved or have corrections. This email will include instructions for your next steps in the review/permitting process.
